March 2009 Featured Artist - Andrea Agnes Bodi

Andrea Agnes Bodi

I grew up in north-west Transylvania, in a family of mixed nationality. My father came from a traditionalist Hungarian Transylvanian family, my mother from a west Romanian one, from the Vrancea mountains in east Romania. My paternal grandfather raised and educated me from childhood to college. He was a master of church art, he left behind a lifework of 64 churches all over in Transylvania. He was the main influence in my life. As a little girl he took me with him to his work sites, where I familiarized with the environment of painting. But as I grew up I chose a different path in life, so I earned a BA in Sociology which is followed now with a MA in Event planning and Protocol in Budapest. I do drawing and painting as a self-taught. I carry influences from traditional peasant elements to naïve religious elements, and abstract form play. I am trying to reflect on the two dimensioned space impressionist emotions, play of light and subtle expressions of thoughts.

Stuart Hampton - Featured Artist of February 2009

Stuart Hampton was born in Manchester born in Bury in Greater Manchester and lived in Heywood until he moved to central Manchester where he studied for a degree in psychology at university.

After university he spent some time in India visiting temples and staying on ashrams in the south. Upon returning to England, Stuart indulged his passion for the arts - and became well known in many circles of artists and musicians for his surreal approach to both art and music.

During his time in Manchester he became active in the music scene and gained a lot of interest from local press for his music. But Stuart always held a strong passion for the visual arts and painting and although he was painting during his time as a musician he felt that he wasn't devoting enough time to cultivate his works so decided to leave the city and move to Cornwall. Of himself, Stuart says:

"I now spend a lot of time painting and trying to create images that speak messages of peace, understanding, humility and appreciation for love and nature."

Influenced by some of the great masters of painting such as Gauguin and more contemporary artists like Salvador Dali, Stuart tries to break down the borders of perception and reality and unite the imaginary with the real, creating powerful and provocative paintings.

His interest in surrealism has helped him develop an unconventional array of works that combine collage like elements with intertwined symbolism, uniting the pieces.

There is nothing more inspiring than an artist that has chosen to follow his passion despite all odds.
